Man jailed for child sex offences in Peterborough

A man has been jailed for seven years for sexual offences against a boy and a girl in the Peterborough area.

George Cardno, 28, of no fixed address, abused the children between 2004 and 2007. He appeared at the city's crown court after being convicted in May.

He had denied attempted rape of a boy under 16 and two counts of inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.

He also pleaded not guilty to three counts of sexual assault on a child.

The court heard the boy was 11 at the time of the offences, while the girl began being abused when she was seven.

Speaking after the case, police said Cardno was arrested in September last year after the boy told his mother what had happened.

Det Con Dave Connelly added: "These offences left the victims and their family shocked and traumatised but Cardno refused to admit what he had done.

"Cardno is a danger to children and that is reflected in the sentence handed down today."
