Troubled Fords bakery finds new buyer

The troubled East Lothian-based Fords Bakery has been sold.

Administrator KPMG said the firm was bought for an "undisclosed sum" by Scullions Wholesale Bakery Limited, a subsidiary of the McGee Group.

The sale secures the future of Fords' 87 staff.

Fords Bakery was placed into administration earlier this week after experiencing "severe cash flow problems" caused by the economic downturn.

KPMG administrator Blair Nimmo said: "I am delighted that we have managed to secure a quick sale of Fords Bakery Ltd as a going concern to the McGhee Group.

"Not only has this saved 87 jobs in Scotland, but the sale also ensures that existing customers will continue to be serviced and that suppliers will have ongoing business."

Gordon McGhee, managing director of the McGhee Group, added: "We are absolutely delighted to have completed the acquisition of Fords Bakery Ltd which fits with our strategy of continuing to build a strong business model throughout Scotland."
