Grimsby burglar attack victim scared to go home

A 70-year-old woman who had to have 60 stitches after being attacked by a burglar says she is too afraid to return home.

Pat Swales also suffered a dislocated shoulder in the attack at her home on Revesby Avenue at 0700 BST on Monday. The man then stole her jewellery.

Mrs Swales is staying with her son Darren while she recovers.

Mr Swales said: "The first rule of a man's life is never hit a woman, never mind an elderly lady. It's terrible."

He said: "Nobody, man or woman, elderly young or old should go through what my mum's gone through.

"All I would ask is if anybody knows anything at all please come forward."

Det Con Robert Laking, of Humberside Police, said: "It's hard to quantify what sort of person would do this to a vulnerable lady that was on her own at the time.

"I would like to stress this was not a normal type of offence that we would come across and like to reassure the other members of the community that we are doing everything that we can to catch the perpetrator of this crime."

A 47-year-old man has been arrested and questioned about the incident.
