Bikers injured on A35 in Dorset

A motorcyclist was critically injured and another suffered leg injuries in two separate collisions on a busy stretch of road in Dorset.

One rider collided head-on with a Volkswagen Golf on the A35 at Chideock Hill on Wednesday, at about 1910 BST.

The 39-year-old, from Corfe Mullen, remains critically ill in hospital.

Two hours earlier a rider and pillion collided with another Golf at Morn Gate caravan park, Dorchester.

The pair were taken to hospital with leg injuries and the road was closed until shortly before 1800 BST.

Forensic inspection

Following the second accident, Chideock Hill was closed to allow the police helicopter to land and take the injured rider to hospital.

His condition was initially described as life threatening but police said his injuries were now classed as serious but not life threatening.

The driver and passenger of the Golf suffered minor injuries.

The road remained closed until shortly before 2300 BST while accident and crime scene investigators carried out a forensic inspection.

One lane remained closed overnight to allow the Highways Agency to deal with oil on the road.
