Boy's wheelchair stolen at sponsored walk in Neath

A specialist wheelchair made for a nine-year-old boy was stolen as he took part in a sponsored walk at school.

Police say the theft, at Banwen in Neath on Tuesday, left parents and teachers angry and caused the youngster considerable upset.

The chair was parked close to where the sponsored walk was taking place when it was taken.

It has since been recovered and two men have been charged with theft.

They are due to appear before magistrates in Neath next week.

Chief Inspector Jason James said: "The incident caused considerable upset to the young victim and anger among the parents and teachers who were taking part in a fundraising event for their school.

"We immediately launched an investigation based on information provided to us which went on throughout the night".

  • On 30 June two men admitted theft at Neath Magistrates' Court and were jailed for 16 weeks and 10 weeks respectively.
