False rape claim mother from Norfolk is jailed

A mother who made a false allegation that she was raped by two men in Norwich has been jailed for 18 months.

Bernadett Kore, 29, of Friarscroft Lane, Wymondham, Norfolk, admitted attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Norwich Crown Court heard that after she made her false rape claim the police investigation cost £15,000.

Kore gave detailed descriptions of the men she claimed had raped her and two men were arrested.

'Wicked story'

Both were arrested in October 2009 after the allegation was first made.

They were detained for 23 hours and it was only in February this year that one of them was told the matter had been dropped.

Nick Methold, prosecuting, said: "It was a wicked story. It was only in February this year Kore said she had made it up to get rid of her partner who has since left the country."

Jonathan Morgans, representing Kore, said: "Her (Kore's) story snowballed and she deeply regrets it."

He said Kore, a mother-of-one, was a woman of previous good character.

Jailing her, Judge Alasdair Darroch told her: "You wasted police time and they spent some of the public money which is in short supply at the moment and it must have caused serious damage to two innocent men and you kept lying for a long time."
