Man caught trapping wild birds gets suspended sentence

A man filmed trapping wild birds has received a suspended jail sentence.

The RSPCA caught Andrew Kemp setting traps using sticks and glue in Willenhall, Walsall.

Kemp, 36, from Willenhall, had earlier pleaded guilty to offences relating to the possession of wild birds.

At Walsall Magistrates' Court, he was jailed for four months, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to pay £900 costs.

When West Midlands Police raided his house they found more than 20 goldfinches and a bullfinch.

RSPCA inspector Ian Briggs said after the case: "These birds all have a commercial value and are easy to trap."
