North Yorkshire child hit and killed by car

A three-year-old girl from North Yorkshire died when she was hit by a car which was being driven by a relative.

Nicole Porritt was struck by the vehicle, being driven by a 41-year-old man, at an address in Great Broughton, Stokesley, at about 1900 BST on Monday.

Nicole, from Malton, was taken to Middlesbrough's James Cook University Hospital where she was confirmed dead.

Police are investigating but said they were not looking for anyone.

Officers have spoken to the driver, a male relative of Nicole's, but have not arrested him.

The girl is understood to have been visiting family in Stokesley when the accident happened.

An inquest into Nicole's death has been opened and adjourned in Northallerton.
