Plans for Belford Hospital ward change
NHS Highland plans to move older people from a ward at the Belford Hospital site in Fort William.
The health board proposes relocating in-patients from the hospital's Belhaven ward to the main building.
It had previously planned to convert the ward, located outside the main building, into a hub for community-based services for older patients.
But a lack of funds has led to this project being shelved.
A series of meetings with staff are now being held to look at two alternative options for the unit.
NHS Highland's acting locality general manager for Lochaber, Tracy Ligema, said both proposals would mean moving the in-patient part of the service to the main Belford site.
She said that the Belhaven ward's separate location had presented problems for clinical staff over the years and said the change would deliver improved nursing and medical cover.
However, she added that the changes would not lead to the removal of any services just their relocation to the main building.
