'Environmental incident averted' after milk lorry crash
A "significant environmental incident" was averted after a tanker carrying 22,000 litres of milk overturned, Wiltshire Fire Service has said.
The accident happened on Friday morning at the Picket Post roundabout on the A362 near Warminster.
A Wiltshire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said if the milk had entered the watercourse it had the potential to contaminate drinking water.
"Most of the milk was transferred into another tanker," she said.
"Firefighters blocked drains and used booms to contain the spillage.
"Water jets were used to clean the road and gullies under supervision of the Environment Agency."
"Crews were on site for five hours," she added.
