Man faces murder charge after Elgin death

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man in Elgin.

Stephen Johnston, 37, died in hospital after a disturbance in Lesmurdie Road on Wednesday evening.

Jamie Nicol, 25, appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court, charged with murder, attempted murder, mobbing and rioting.

Daniel McArthur, 20, and Dale Wilson, 25, are also charged with attempted murder, mobbing and rioting. A 22-year-old has been reported to the fiscal in connection with the disturbance.

Police say the men have also been reported to prosecutors in connection with a serious assault in Blackburn, Aberdeenshire, on Tuesday night.

In 2008, Mr Johnston was jailed for two years for his role in a drugs gang.
