Demolition work will begin on a Nottingham council house which was severely damaged in a suspected gas explosion.

Part of the back wall of the property on Stockhill Lane, Basford collapsed and much of the first floor gave way in the blast.

Sandra Shaw, 42, and her partner Alex "Sonny" Kirk, both lost limbs in the explosion on 20 June.

Police said the house is considered too dangerous for investigators to enter.

The cause of the blast is still not known, but evidence will be collected by police as gradual demolition takes place.

Nottingham City Homes (NCH), which manages the council property, said a new boiler was installed in the house about six weeks ago and had been inspected since.

The demolition work is expected to take two weeks to complete.
