Man accused of rape after baby's remains found in Stoke

A man has appeared in court after the remains of a baby were found at a former scrapyard in Staffordshire.

Mark Whitehurst, 47, of Middleport, Stoke-on-Trent, appeared before North Staffordshire magistrates charged with three counts of rape and one of concealment of a birth.

He was charged following the discovery of the remains at the site in Smithpool Road, Fenton.

Mr Whitehurst was bailed until 5 July to appear before Stoke Crown Court.
