Three girls rescued by lifeboat off Barry Island

Three girls were rescued by a lifeboat crew after they got into difficulties trying the reach the shore in the Whitmore Bay area off Barry, Vale of Glamorgan.

The RNLI Barry Dock all-weather lifeboat was launched at around 1915 BST on Monday after it was alerted.

The 'boarding' boat was also launched and picked up the girls and brought them back to shore.

It was the sixth launch for the lifeboat crew in four days.

On Friday, they were called to help a 15-year-old boy who had hurt his shoulder on rocks while out swimming with friends in the the old harbour at Barry.

The teenager was airlifted to hospital.
