A rapist who subjected a girl to a six-year ordeal of sex abuse has been jailed for fourteen and a half years.

Anthony Heapy, 48, of Middleton, was found guilty of two counts of rape, nine counts of sexual assault and one historic indecent assault.

Bolton Crown Court heard during the two-week trial that Heapy subjected a girl to sexual assaults and rapes between the ages of 10 and 16.

The historic charge related to an attack on a second girl, aged 12.

Following the trial, police said that the first victim eventually told her school about Heapy's crimes when she became 16.

Det Con Julianna Barker said: "Heapy has left his victims scarred for life by the abuse he subjected them to.

"Not content with having taken advantage of their trust in childhood, he has now forced them to re-live the abuse by refusing to admit to his crimes and putting them through this trial.

"I just hope the result gives them some sense that justice has now been done."
