£2.4m Scottish Borders Council cuts plan agreed

Scottish Borders Council has approved plans to cut more than £2.4m from its spending this year.

It said the move would affect all departments but insisted it would not have an impact on frontline services.

Free school meals will not be provided to all pupils in P1 to P3 in deprived areas, and plans to take on 12 new teachers have also been shelved.

A freeze on non-essential recruitment and cuts to advertising, consultant use and overtime have also been agreed.

The authority has made the cuts in advance of an anticipated budget reduction of about £16m next year.
