Three teenagers have appeared in court charged with setting fire to a historic Renfrewshire mill that was earmarked for restoration.

The three were alleged to have wilfully set fire to Paton's Mill in Johnstone on 31 May.

The two 16-year-olds from Linwood and a 17-year-old from Johnstone made no plea or declaration at Paisley Sheriff Court and were released on bail.

Paton's Mill, built on the banks of the Black Cart River, dates back to 1782.

The case against Scott Carruthers, of Stirling Drive, and John Winters, of Machrie Crescent in Linwood and David Stevenson, of Barochan Road, Johnstone, was continued for further examination by Sheriff Susan Sinclair.
