A new Miss Cornwall has been crowned after the former winner was stripped of the title for lying about her age.

Samantha Orpe, 21, from Truro, took the title on Wednesday and will be representing Cornwall in the Miss England finals.

Former Miss Cornwall Laura Anness was sacked for saying she was 22 when she was 27.

She also said she lived in Saltash, but she actually lived in Plymouth in the neighbouring county of Devon.

Assistant nurse Miss Orpe said: "I feel no bitterness towards Laura. There is no age limit to beauty, but this is a competition and there are rules."
