Fraud arrests over cash for work on Lowestoft house

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of fraud after a bank in Suffolk alerted police over an elderly man withdrawing a large sum of money.

The 87-year-old customer said he wanted to pay for work being carried out on his home, police said.

Officers liaised with Trading Standards and arrested a 26-year-old man at the bank and a 32-year-old at an address in the town.

They have been released on bail until 25 August.

The men were also interviewed over similar allegations that customers in the Lowestoft area have paid excessive amounts for work and not been given the correct information regarding their rights to cancel, police said.

A seven-day right of cancellation is a legal requirement designed to protect consumers from being pressured into a contract for goods or services.
