Two charged with murder after Maidenhead fire death

Two teenagers charged with murder after a woman died in a Berkshire house fire have been remanded in custody.

Saimah Ali, 23, is thought to have been attending a family gathering when the fire started at the property in Moor Lane, Maidenhead, on 25 June.

A 17-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, and 19-year-old Amaar Najib were charged with murder and arson with intent to endanger life.

They will appear at Reading Crown Court in a preliminary hearing on 16 July.

An application for bail was made for the 17-year-old, who will appear at Reading Crown Court on Monday.

The pair appeared before East Berkshire Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Mr Najib was arrested at Birmingham Airport on Wednesday while the girl was arrested in the Slough area.

Two other people, aged 16 and 19, who were held on suspicion of murder on Monday, have been bailed.

A post-mortem examination found Ms Ali died from the effects of breathing in smoke.
