Festival-goers travelling to T in the Park by train from Inverness this weekend will be banned from drinking.

The alcohol ban has been imposed by British Transport Police and ScotRail.

Trains from Wick to Inverness and Inverness to Perth on Thursday and Friday morning will be affected.

A spokesman for BTP said: "This is not about being some sort of killjoy but ensuring that anyone travelling or working on the rail network can do so safely and without hindrance."

Alcohol confiscated

He said these services had been singled out because of previous incidents of "minor disorder" on the routes.

Pc Martin Turner said: "We want to ensure that everyone can travel without encountering anti-social behaviour.

"Officers will be patrolling the affected trains. Alcohol will be confiscated and anyone indulging in behaviour that is deemed unacceptable will be dealt with appropriately."

This year's three-day festival at Balado in Perth and Kinross will be headlined by Muse, Eminem and Kasabian. The event is in its 16th year.
