Man and dog die after collision in Brighouse

A man has died after being hit by a car as he walked his dogs in Brighouse.

The 75-year-old man was walking across the Brighouse-bound carriageway on the A641 at 1607 BST on Sunday when he was hit by a blue Volkswagen Golf.

The injured man was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary where he died later that day. One of his two dogs was also killed.

A 31-year-old man from the Huddersfield area was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has been released on police bail.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
