Man, 19, is stabbed on walk home in Widnes

A teenager was stabbed and attacked with bottles by a gang of youths as he walked home in Cheshire.

The 19-year-old was walking with his girlfriend in Appleton Village, Widnes, at about 0250 BST on Saturday a group of men approached them, police said.

They stabbed him in the back and legs, and hit him in the head with bottles. His girlfriend suffered a broken wrist.

Police appealed to witnesses to contact them. They also want to speak to taxi drivers in the area at the time.

A police spokesman said officers did not have a description of the attackers, except that one was riding a bicycle.
