Further Galashiels relief route work planned

Work on the third phase of a relief route through a Scottish Borders town has been scheduled to start later this year.

Over the winter, Ladhope Vale and Bridge Street in Galashiels will be returned to two-way traffic.

Scottish Borders Council said it was hoped the scheme could ease congestion.

It is working with Transport Scotland to ensure "total integration" of the plans with moves to reopen a rail link between Edinburgh and the Borders.

The relief route works have been ongoing for a number of years and have suffered a number of delays as well as a budget overspend.

The final phase will take place next year and focus on pedestrian improvements in Bank Street, Market Street and the High Street.
