Two more men arrested over Stephen Johnston death

Two more men have been arrested by police investigating the death of Elgin man Stephen Johnston.

The 37-year-old died in hospital after a fight between several people in the town's Lesmurdie Road on 24 June.

A 31-year old-man has already appeared in court charged with his murder.

Both men will appear at Elgin Sheriff Court on charges of mobbing and rioting. Police said the development brought the number of arrests in connection with the incident to nine.

Five men have so far appeared in court in connection with the disturbance.

Remanded in custody

At Elgin Sheriff Court on 25 June Jamie Nicol, 25, from Elgin, was charged with murder, attempted murder, theft and mobbing and rioting. He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.

Daniel McArthur, 20, and Dale Wilson, 25, both from Elgin, were remanded in custody on 25 June after they were charged with attempted murder, theft and mobbing and rioting.

Mr Wilson was also charged with possessing an offensive weapon and drug possession.

On 29 June, Andrew Watt, 22, of Elgin, and John Stewart, 31, of Moray, were remanded in custody after they were charged with mobbing and rioting.

Mr Watt was also charged with attempted murder and theft.
