New pool entry rate for over-60 swimmers in Cornwall

Swimmers in Cornwall aged over 60 are being offered a concessionary rate to use council-owned pools.

Cornwall Council said the rate was in response to a "disappointing" decision by the government to axe free swimming for senior citizens.

The free scheme, which began in April last year, will be halted at the end of July as part of spending cuts.

In Cornwall, swimmers will only have to pay £2.30 instead of an entry fee of between £3.10 and £3.50 from August.

Local authority pools participating include:

  • Bude Leisure Centre
  • Camelford Leisure Centre
  • Dragon Leisure Centre, Bodmin
  • Helston Sports Centre
  • Lux Park Leisure Centre, Liskeard
  • Newquay Waterworld
  • Penzance Leisure Centre
  • Phoenix Leisure Centre, Launceston
  • Polkyth Leisure Centre, St Austell
  • Saltash Leisure Centre
  • Wadebridge Leisure Centre
