Answers

  1. It's former US president Ronald Reagan. Apparently he was the footballer's father's favourite actor. The winger's full name is Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro.
  2. It was the cigars. The other minister, Alain Joyandet, state secretary for overseas development, drew criticism after he chartered a private jet for 116,500 euros ($142,500, £96,000) to attend a meeting in Martinique.
  3. It was Kylie. "To illustrate the point with trivial stereotypical examples from British society," Judge Rodger said. "Just as male heterosexuals are free to enjoy themselves playing rugby, drinking beer and talking about girls with their mates, so male homosexuals are to be free to enjoy themselves going to Kylie concerts, drinking exotically coloured cocktails and talking about boys with their straight female mates."
  4. It's a scooter, or small motorcycle. The HB-SIA plane, which took off from Switzerland, has the weight of a family car but the wingspan of a big airliner. The aim was to assess whether the plane can fly in darkness, using solar cells on its wings to generate enough power to stay in the air for 24 hours.
  5. It's Sumo wrestling. At the weekend, a wrestler and his coach were banned from the sport, because of allegations that they were involved in gambling on professional baseball.
  6. It's the Roman coins. One of the largest ever finds of Roman coins in Britain was made by a man using a metal detector. The hoard of more than 52,000 coins dating from the third century AD was found buried in a field near Frome in Somerset. A radial is a little bronze coin.
  7. It's the peanut butter and jelly sandwich. After his release, Mr Kobayashi said he had gone to the competition as a spectator this year, but jumped on stage when the crowd kept chanting "Let him eat!". He added: "I am very hungry... I wish there were hot dogs in jail."
