Taxi driver assaulted by two men in Leicester

Two men tried to take money from a taxi driver before attacking him and snatching his car keys in Leicester.

The pair approached him while his cab was parked on Coventry Street, just off Hinckley Road on Thursday morning.

They demanded the 57-year-old's takings but he refused. The men then assaulted him through the car window, police said.

The robbers then ran across Hinckley Road on to Cranmer Street. Police have appealed for witnesses.

Det Sgt John Farndon said: "The victim received injuries to his face during the incident and was treated at the scene by the ambulance service.

"He was going about his daily business when he was approached by these two men and the incident has left him extremely shaken."
