Street scheme in Corby set to improve area

A £3.3m scheme to improve a street in the centre of Corby, Northamptonshire, is due to start.

Work on George Street will include new lighting, seating and paving and new bus shelters with real time bus information.

The area is going to be improved for pedestrians with traffic restrictions during the day.

Northamptonshire County Council and Corby Borough Council are spearheading the project.

'Corby transformed'

The work will start on 19 July and will provide and aim to complement the Willow Place shopping centre, new Corby East Midlands International Pool and Corby Cube development.

Heather Smith, county council cabinet member for environment and transport, said: "We have recently seen Corby transformed with the creation of fantastic new buildings, greatly rejuvenating the town centre.

"These new proposals will contribute enormously in giving Corby the town centre it deserves.

"Corby has shown that it really is on the up, going from strength to strength, and I'm sure that it will continue to attract investment, triggering significant economic growth."

Work is due to take about six to nine months to complete.
