Jersey Fire Service in call to avoid lighting bonfires

Islanders are being warned to avoid having bonfires because dry weather has increased the risk of them spreading.

A Jersey Fire and Rescue Service crew was called to a bonfire that had started to spread to undergrowth at the weekend.

It had been left unattended to burn, with no water nearby.

The service said if it is "absolutely necessary" to have a bonfire, make sure there is something to extinguish it and do not leave it unattended.
