Arrest as lorry hits bridge on M3 in Lightwater

A motorist has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving following an accident involving a lorry and a car.

Surrey Police said the lorry driver was thrown from his cab after it collided with a bridge on the M3 near Lightwater at 0630 BST.

He was taken to Frimley Park hospital with head injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police said a black Seat Ibiza was also involved in the incident and the 26-year-old driver arrested.

"Officers are still trying to ascertain whether the lorry hit the car before colliding with the bridge," said a police spokesman.

The southbound carriageway of the M3 was closed for three hours while police carried out an investigation.
