Galashiels traders launch crime crackdown
Shopkeepers, council and police have launched a new scheme to help tackle town centre crime in Galashiels.
More than 90 traders in the Scottish Borders town have signed up for the Shopwatch initiative, backed by the local chamber of trade.
It allows members to share information on shoplifters, forged notes, bad credit cards and missing persons.
The scheme uses text messages or automated phone calls to supply details quickly to shopkeepers.
It replaces an old "ring around" scheme which members said often failed to get information to traders.
