UKIP candidate David Robinson-Young in beheading threat
A threat to behead a UKIP candidate in Newcastle is being investigated by the police.
David Robinson-Young, who is standing in Newcastle East, said he received a phone call on Tuesday from a constituent complaining about the Middle East.
The caller said "you will be beheaded next" during the 20-minute call.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: "The matter has been reported to police and is being investigated."
The constituent contacted the 62-year-old after receiving a campaign leaflet.
Mr Robinson-Young added: "I'm not a man who is easily intimidated, I'm an ex-policeman and I've been subjected to numerous physical threats in the past."
He said he found the threat "chilling" and was "shaken".
The candidates for Newcastle-upon-Tyne East are:
- Nicholas Brown (Labour)
- Duncan Crute (Conservative)
- Andrew Gray (Green)
- Paul Phillips (Trade Union and Socialist Coalition)
- David Robinson-Young (UK Independent Party)
- Susan Stevenson (Communist Party of Britain)
- Wendy Taylor (Liberal Democrat)
