OBR chief defends organisation's independence

The Office for Budget Responsibility has rejected claims it is not as independent from the government as intended when it was created.

The OBR's chief, Sir Alan Budd, denies the organisation watered down a report on the impact of spending cuts in the Budget.

He told a committee of senior MPs he regretted any reputational damage done to the OBR, which was set up to end political meddling in official forecasting.

Stephanie Flanders reports.
