Broughton: I am the chairman, I have the casting vote
The board of Liverpool football club has agreed to sell it to the owner of the Boston Red Sox baseball team.
However, Liverpool's current American owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett, are trying to block the deal, which is said to be worth up to £300m. It would repay the club's bank loans, but Mr Hicks and Mr Gillett would get nothing. Liverpool's chairman, Martin Broughton, says the deal is in the best interests of the club.
