Total boss on offshore drilling regulation

The chief of one of the world's top 30 oil companies says it is up to national governments to regulate offshore drilling and not Brussels. The European Commission wants to tighten the rules for deep-water operations after the vast BP spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

However, Christophe de Margerie, chief executive of France's Total, told the BBC he believed his company's own precautions were already stricter than any which were likely to be imposed. He also talked about how he believes world gas prices may recover, to be more in line with the cost of oil.
