European Parliament to vote on extending maternity leave

In Strasbourg the European Parliament is to vote on Wednesday on a proposal to increase mandatory maternity leave across the 27 member states to 20 weeks on full pay.

However, opponents say it will load businesses with unnecessary costs and discourage them from hiring young women fearing they may get pregnant.
