Cable: State pension shake-up is 'good news'

The government has confirmed it is looking at changing the state pension so that everyone gets a standard payment, regardless of their National Insurance contributions.

The Business Secretary, Vince Cable, says it is something the Liberal Democrats were keen on in opposition and his Liberal Democrat colleague, the Pensions Minister Steve Webb, will publish a consultation paper recommending the change before the end of the year.

Vince Cable told the BBC the shake-up would be good news and would protect the position of women.
