Evidence expected of US economic growth for third quarter

There could be new evidence later today that the US economy is picking up some momentum.

The first estimate of GDP for the third quarter is expected to show annual growth of 2 per cent up from 1.7 per cent in the second quarter.

The data could provide a limited boost for the Obama administration just days before Americans vote in the mid term elections.
