Russia's struggle to keep its car brands alive

For the past 80 years, Nizhny Novgorod has been home to the giant Gaz car and truck plant.

Its most famous product has been the Volga, the ultimate status symbol in the Soviet Union.

Now it seems to have come to signify what is wrong with Russian-designed and Russian-made cars.

There are rumours that the Volga could be phased out completely.
