Pfizer research site closure 'a major blow'

Drug maker Pfizer is to close its research and development facility in Kent, which employs 2,400 people.

The company has said the majority of staff would be made redundant over the next two years, but it hoped to transfer several hundred employees elsewhere.

One leading scientist, Professor Chris Mason, described the closure as ''a major blow'' to science and research.

The BBC's Hugh Pym reports.
