Tax expert John Whiting on what to expect in new tax year
The new tax year starts on Wednesday, bringing with it some changes to the system - including a rise in National Insurance contributions.
Everyone earning over £7,225 a year will pay 12% in national Insurance. But tax allowances will be worth an extra £200 a year.
John Whiting, from the Chartered Institute of Taxation, told the BBC the new year gives everyone a chance to get their tax in order.
