OFT to investigate warranty sales

An investigation is to be launched into the sale of extended warranties on electrical goods, a practice worth more than £750m to retailers and suppliers.

But the Office of Fair Trading says many of the policies are too expensive.

A quarter of all electrical goods are sold with an extended warranty, typically when someone buys a large item in a shop.

Simon Gompertz reports.
