Bank of England's chief economist warns of 'hard times'

With inflation running at twice the pace of most of people's wage increases, even a small rise in interest rates would hit mortgage holders hard.

One of the men responsible for determining whether the cost of borrowing goes up has given the BBC rare access to how he reaches his decision.
