Unite union criticises Birmingham Council's outsourcing

In a controversial move, Conservative-run Birmingham City Council has said it is transferring up to 100 posts to India, as part of a cost cutting exercise.

The change will affect workers in its IT division.

Unions say new employees have already been recruited from India to shadow staff here, doing the job.

Gail Cartmail from the union Unite described the move as "socially irresponsible and self-defeating".
