Ecuador minister on 'new economy' for the country

Ecuador is one of the most resource rich countries in the world and has an estimated 6.51 billion barrels of crude oil in its reserves.

But the oil has not always been good for the country. Many of its indigenous people are currently undergoing a legal battle with the US oil giant Chevron.

They say that a subsidiary of Chevron dumped illegal waste into the forest and it has affected their health.

Chevron robustly denies this allegation and points out that it has spent $40bn on a clean-up operation in the Amazon.

In a wide-ranging interview, the country's planning minister, Rene Ramirez, told the BBC's Lucy Burton about his plans to move the country away from its dependence on oil.
