Bob Diamond: Barclays was 'stabilising force' in crisis

Barclays Bank was a "stabilising force" during the financial crisis, its boss Bob Diamond has told MPs.

The heads of Britain's biggest banks have been quizzed by the Treasury Select Committee.

Members heard their views on the Independent Commission on Banking's proposal to ring-fence the retail operations of a bank into distinct subsidiaries, so that these operations would be protected if a bank collapsed.
