Greece 'has to learn to spend less'

Greek MPs vote in favour of unpopular austerity measures aimed at saving the country from defaulting on its debt, as violent protests continue outside parliament.

Greece is heavily in debt and the package is needed to win the latest tranche of a 110bn-euro (£98bn) loan.

There will be a second vote on Thursday for the implementation of different parts of the package, such as tax rises and the sale of state assets.

Speaking on the phone from Athens, the former Greek finance minister Stefanos Manos told the BBC that Greece must "learn to spend less".
