Weaker than expected retail sales

There has been another indicator of a struggling economy as the latest retail figures show only a very slight increase in sales last month.

Spending rose by just 0.2% in July - less than had been hoped.

Consumer spending continues to be affected by higher inflation, job losses and limited wage rises.
