UK public sector job cuts are 'own goal'

Government plans to cut public sector jobs are a "false economy", according to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Chief economic adviser John Philpott warned that rising unemployment benefit payments could increase the UK's borrowing costs.

Mr Philpott told the BBC's Penny Haslam that the proposals were an "own goal" for the government.
